Baltimore is one of America's great old port cities, with a rich history revolving
around seafaring life. Located along the Patapsco River, and adjacent to
Chesapeake Bay and the Atlantic Ocean, Baltimore's warm water port and
innovative rail system made it a mid-Atlantic transportation hub for much
of the last two centuries. Even as the port diminished in importance over
the last 20 years, Baltimore found a way to reinvent itself by transforming
the downtown and harbor areas into a dynamic business, entertainment and
tourism district.
On the residential side, Baltimore is made up of many neighborhoods,
offering a diverse cross section of people and cultures. Ridgely's Delight,
where Sailcloth Factory is located, is a small, charming and historic
area full of mid-19th century brick rowhouses and significant old commercial
buildings. Around the turn of the 20th century the neighborhood was
known as "Professional Row", because of the many doctors and
dentists who lived there. The area experienced a long period of decay
and decline, but a major restoration program started in the 1970s revitalized
Ridgely's Delight and the neighborhood experienced a resurgence as young
professionals and people affiliated with the universities and medical
complexes were attracted to the charm and convenience.
Take a walk around town and you won't believe how close
you are to the great shopping, culture, culinary delights and entertainment
attractions in and around the Inner Harbor. Oriole Park at Camden Yards
and the Ravens football stadium are close by. Fells Point and other
popular neighborhoods are minutes away, plus the proximity of major
streets, the Beltway, bus lines and MARC trains make this neighborhood
a very easy place to come home to.
If you're looking for a neighborhood that combines charm,
class, character, culture and convenience, you'll be delighted with
Ridgely's Delight in downtown Baltimore.

The Sail Cloth Factory

121 South Fremont Ave - If you're looking for uncompromising style in a uniquely designed building,
set your sights on The Sailcloth Factory. Its fascinating history dates
back to 1888, when the Gandy Belting Company built a facility to manufacture
sail cloth for marine and machinery purposes. In later years the complex
served as a warehouse for Hutzler's Department Stores. The landmark was
given new life in 1987 when Historic Landmarks restored it into a luxury
apartment residence. Today, The Sailcloth Factory is one of the most fashionable
addresses in town. |
