The Palmyra area has been popular since the mid-1600s, when the Lenni Lenape Indians found the good land, unbroken forests, clear streams and abundant vegetation perfect conditions for establishing a settlement. Over the next 100 years, explorers from the east arrived to set up trading posts and the first wave of European immigrants came in search of good farming and religious freedom. The area continued to grow as new dirt roads and navigable waterways were developed to transport the farm produce, grains and minerals of Palmyra's burgeoning industries to markets near and far. The Shoe Factory.

Today, Palmyra is still the epitome of a small, rural farming community, but it has so much more to offer. Being located in the heart of Lebanon Valley, and minutes from the conveniences of Hershey, Harrisburg, York and Lancaster, residents of Palmyra are never at a loss for things to do. The natural attractions offer everything from underground caverns to lush gardens, wildlife preserves to well-stocked trout streams. You can hike, bike, hunt, camp, canoe, golf and horseback ride in the great outdoors. You can picnic in state parks, tour early colonial homesteads, visit museums and major sites from Palmyra's proud past. You can shop the area's incredible outlets, antique stores and farmer's markets. You can enjoy concerts, professional theater groups, informal or formal dining, or take a refreshing dip in the community pool complex during warm weather months.

If you're looking for a location that offers rich history, gracious small town hospitality and the conveniences of a large regional area, Palmyra is the perfect place!
