Shadyside Apartments. From early native American settlements to the arrival of European immigrants, Pittsburgh has embodied America's great push towards progress. It's a city of many firsts and the cornerstone of the industrial age that modernized post-Civil War and early 20th century America. Important names around town, such as Carnegie, Mellon, Heinz, Alcoa and Westinghouse are reminders of Pittsburgh's proud past. And the dramatic urban renaissance program that was undertaken in the 1950s continues to revitalize Pittsburgh's downtown district even to this day.

Because of its hilly terrain and flow of three mighty rivers, the city is composed of many separate neighborhoods, each retaining much of the ethnic heritage, architectural character and "town within a town" charm that has defined Pittsburgh for much of the last 200 years. And the one section that has long been the neighborhood of choice for many of Pittsburgh's finest families as well as up and comers is Shadyside. The refined architecture of the grand old homes, the ornate design of the many houses of worship, the private and cozy residential nature of the neighborhood all serve to define a quality and style that sets Shadyside apart from other areas.

Take a walk around Shadyside and you'll find an eclectic mix of unique specialty stores, craft boutiques, fine restaurants, ethnic markets, popular nightspots and galleries, plus the upscale shopping along Walnut Street. Stroll over to Schenley, Frick and Mellon parks and experience a slice of country in the city. Take a short walk over to the Oakland neighborhood and you're in the hub of college life, with major universities, medical complexes, libraries, museums, leisure attractions and services on every street. And the business center of downtown Pittsburgh can be easily accessed via a quick drive or public transportation.

Almost everything you could possibly want can be found in Pittsburgh, along with the uncommon character and conveniences of Shadyside, the suburban neighborhood within a vibrant urban setting.
