Gilbert's stately Gotzian complex was noted for its unique Victorian Romanesque architectural style that was more intriguing than industrial. Massive granite piers topped with a huge decorative sash form the base of the building. Above them, large rounded arched windows are capped with a classical cornice. It's no wonder that this enduring landmark was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1985.
