The history of Elizabethtown dates back to the early 1700's, when the area was first settled as a trading post and attracted colonists from all points north, east, south and west. The open expanse of rolling, rural land and richness of soil and fresh water streams made the area ideal for farming and industrial mills, thereby drawing thousands of settlers from Olde Philadelphia, Maryland and Virginia. Even the original trading post, situated on a trail which later became the Harrisburg-Lancaster Turnpike, became an increasingly popular destination well into the in the 19th century.

In the late 1800's, as post Civil-War America was well into its reconstructionist period, the Industrial Age swept through small towns and even Elizabethtown became caught up in the major growth of industry and commerce. The old, fertile farmlands gave way to new factories and foundries, and soon Elizabethtown became a thriving mill town. One of the most prominent families at the time in central Pennsylvania, the Kreiders, benefited from the industrial boom, and their emerging shoe company opened one factory after another across the countryside.

In 1905, the A.S. Kreider Shoe Company selected acclaimed architect, C. Emlen Urban, to design their new facility in Elizabethtown and it's been a monument ever since. Emlen's specs for solid brick construction and heavy timbered beams and columns were significant examples of mill building architecture of the early industrial era. As electricity was a precious commodity in those days, oversized windows and high ceilings were designed to maximize the availability of natural light, and the unique "U" shape of the complex was an architectural element that allowed for a brighter, airier environment.

In 1983, the Kreider building was given new life, when Historic Landmarks for Living spent millions to transform the property into a distinctive residential community. Following in the tradition of its many successful revitalizations, Historic Landmarks took great care to preserve the significant architectural details of the past and complement them with a host of contemporary amenities and conveniences. Today, this 72-unit landmark offers a variety of spacious studio and one-bedroom apartments that are both comfortable and creative.

Peach Alley apartments feature 11-foot high ceilings and oversized windows for bright, airy living spaces. Quality standards include plush, wall-to-wall carpeting, gourmet kitchens, elegant baths, energy efficient heating and air conditioning systems, exposed timber ceilings and columns, abundant storage, plentiful parking, professional property management and 24-hour maintenance. As an added attraction, you'll ??? how we've preserved the inner sanctum of the complex by creating a lushly landscaped interior courtyard and a series of pavilions to appeal to your more peaceful moments.

Today, Peach Alley Court is a proud landmark flourishing as a luxury apartment community. It's close to all the comforts and conveniences of Palmyra…close to the extensive business, entertainment, recreational and shopping attractions of Hershey, Harrisburg and Lancaster…as close to perfection as you'll find in central Pennsylvania!
