Early settlers named it Chicago,
an Indian word for "wild onion." Poet laureate, Carl Sandburg,
christened it the "city of big shoulders." Others have called
it the "windy city" and "America's breadbasket." Who
knows what they were thinking with those unusual references, but we happen
to agree with Frank Sinatra, who immortalized the city in a song as "My
Kind of Town!"
No matter what it is called, Chicago offers diversity and has a vitality that
defines it as one of America's greatest cities. It is a thriving metropolis,
yet a place of beautiful contrasts. Its melting pot of neighborhoods are
rich in history and culture and renowned for architecture.
The neighborhood that is home to The Regal is known as "The Loop,"
so called because of the horse-drawn cable cars that used to loop through
the district's streets in the early 20th century. During the 1910s and 20s,
The Loop was Chicago's principal retail and entertainment district and the
keyboard of the "Jazz Age." As the Loop boomed, movie palaces
premiered, nightlife thrived, department stores expanded, grand hotels opened,
train and transit stations took off, a large publishing community pressed
on and the neighborhood prospered. After World War II, Chicago's downtown
area got tired, like most other big cities, but there has been a dramatic
rebirth over the last few decades and, once again, The Loop is hot, especially
with young professionals who truly enjoy the amenities and conveniences
of living downtown, along with the character of residing in old buildings
that have been rehabilitated into contemporary residences.
Take a walk around The Loop-not to mention America's most walkable city-and you're
never at a loss for something to do. The shopping is incomparable. The dining
and nightlife choices are without equal as well. The cultural attractions
and festivals, ranging from museums to jazz & blues venues, appeal to
every taste imaginable. The parks and playgrounds, the natural trails for
hiking, biking and blading, the sandy shores of Lake Michigan, all offer
a pleasurable retreat from the buzz of big city life.
Everything you could possibly need can be found right here in The South
Loop/Burnham Park neighborhood and at The Regal: an extraordinary lifestyle
offering luxury, quality, service, convenience and uncompromising style!
