Philadelphia has been famous for its tree-lined, criss cross streets featuring stretches of row homes for as far back as the 18th century. From slim, trinity-style homes to impressive Greek and Georgian Revival townhouses, the attached homes have defined the city's unique architectural style for generations.
As Philadelphia's population grew and its center core expanded in the 1800's, the area west of Broad Street became an attractive neighborhood for new businesses and prosperous businessmen. On streets such as Arch and Race you found small rows of stately townhouses interspersed with beautiful churches, architecturally significant cultural institutions and impressive commercial buildings.
Midway between 20th and 21st streets on Arch, a series of brick and brownstone trinity row homes were built in the 1890's. Over the years these buildings served a variety of purposes, first as private homes and later on as apartment residences, but in 1983 three of the properties were given new life when Historic Landmarks For Living created an intimate luxury apartment community of 18 distinctive residences. And the rest is history.
